The chocoholics have been out in force asking a whole bunch of questions about low carb chocolate. People have seen low carb high fat trail mixes online and a lot of them contain low carb chocolate chips. Are you allowed low carb chocolate on the LCHF diet and if so is it a case of the darker the better?

Dark Low Carb Chocolate is perfect

Yes. The darker or more bitter the better. The problem with eating chocolate on the LCHF diet is the Sugar content. Your regular low cost chocolate’s you buy off the shelf at the checkout of a supermarket are loaded with the sweet stuff.

If you still want to be eating chocolate, especially for the extreme LCHF followers, it must have no sugar and no carbohydrates. You do get 100% cocoa products out there. Generally you should be good eating a chocolate at a cocoa percentage of 85%. This will taste really bitter to someone who is used to sugar, but is the best way to go on the diet.

From a health perspective, chocolate and cocoa is generally considered to be a rich source of antioxidants. They also contain a high level of flavonoids, which may have beneficial cardiovascular effects on health.
