Eat Better SA: One Year Reunion with Ocean View Ladies

The ladies from Eat Better South Africa’s ground zero project in Ocean View, Cape Town, got together this month to mark the one-year anniversary since embarking on the program and adopting the LCHF lifestyle. The Noakes Foundation team along with the ladies from the Ocean View community gathered at Monkey Valley resort in Noordhoek to celebrate what had been a great year of transformation. The group took some time out to share their stories, talk about their challenges and successes while at the same time enjoy some delicious Banting snacks.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the group and the team from the Foundation to look back on the success and progress of the previous year. A few of the ladies admitted to having fallen off the wagon during the Christmas season but commented that it did not take long to get back into the carb and sugar-free lifestyle.

Some amazing testimonies were shared, Katy Jacobs, one of the ladies from the community, had gone on to lose a total of 15 kg’s since the intervention and has since come off all blood pressure medication, but says her favourite thing about Banting is “how healthy and happy I feel every day”. Gillian Peterson, another of the ladies, commented that the most noticeable difference, besides weight loss, was her increased energy and good mood. The consensus around the room was that they had had their lives changed are committed to never going back to their previous lifestyle and eating habits, their personal journey has inspired these ladies to share the knowledge they have gained with friends and family.

The reunion was a wonderful confirmation, yet again, that the Eat Better South Africa intervention model is proved to work and is sustainable in the long term.

Every lady in attendance took home a Heba Pap and Probyo fermented drink to sample, two of the affiliates of The Noakes Foundation. A portion of each of these products sold goes towards the Eat Better South Africa program, which aids the Foundation to reach new communities. The Noakes Foundation recognizes the great need in many other communities around South Africa who are in desperate need of education about healthy food choices and require support in changing their health and nutrition, and remain committed to rolling this project out countrywide in the near future.
