The Noakes Foundation is proud to announce its newest affiliate partnership with Probyo – a South Africa cultured drink range that unlocks your natural energy by using the goodness from live probiotic microbes.
The Noakes Foundation chose to take Probyo on as an affiliate partner because of their focus on the micro-biome. The Foundation and its researchers are fascinated by the possibility of probiotics becoming a new frontier in modern medicine and plan to include this new area into their research programmes. Jayne Bullen, Manager of the Foundation, stated that “whilst still anecdotal to some degree, there is early evidence that probiotics ingested regularly through a variety of fermented food and drink products or in capsule form could become the medicine of the future.”
Fermented foods are foods which are produced or preserved by the action of microorganisms, and are rich in probiotics, enzymes, vitamins and minerals. Fermented products are fast gaining ground as the latest food craze and health food wonder. Not only do they have an attractively tangy flavour, they’re also better for you than their unfermented counterparts. That’s because they’re cultured – cultured foods are potent detoxifiers and when combined with a healthy diet low in sugar and grains, allow your beneficial gut bacteria to flourish.
Gut flora or gut microbiota are the microorganisms living in the gastrointestinal tract that form an intricate system, which if out of balance, can have a detrimental impact on the body. Following a diet low in carbohydrates and high in fat will ensure a healthy and balanced gut flora, and will reduce the incidence of common digestive problems.
Cultured foodstuffs contain live probiotic microbes that boost the immune system, aid digestion and unlock energy for the body. Cultured Drinks “are what you would call ‘functional’ foods,” says Alastair Burns, the Director of Probyo, a newly launched brand that has just released an all-natural range of three cultured drinks, which aim to promote general health and wellbeing.
The Probyo Digestive, Probyo Immune and Probyo Sports drinks all contain live probiotics, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which encourage positive health benefits and restore good bacteria. The new range has been given the nod of approval from The Noakes Foundation, with R3 of every bottle of Probyo sold going towards promoting better health in poorer communities through the Foundation’s Eat Better South Africa! programme. Probyo has also committed to regularly donating a generous number of the drinks to be distributed on the ground via the programme.
Prof Noakes was the guest speaker at Probyo’s official launch party held in late June 2016, and commented that health education and good nutrition are key for enhancing physical and mental development.
A percentage of sales from these products are donated to Eat Better South Africa! which allows The Noakes Foundation to keep giving back and helping poor communities to get better by eating better. You can purchase the product online at www.probyo.com, at Wellness Warehouse outlets nationwide, and at selected health shops.
