Research Proposal

Interventional pilot study observing the effects of LCHF diet on weight loss in a population of mixed ancestry

A group of Banting naive subjects have shown an interest in a LCHF intervention; their primary goal being weight loss. Their weight, blood work and vital signs will be monitored and documented over the course of 6 weeks.
Once this pilot study has been completed, it is expected to be repeated with a larger sample size.

Each subject will be given a food diary in order to document their current nutritional intake.
There will then be a series of pre-recorded lectures and live discussions in order to educate them with regards to the Banting lifestyle. Thereafter, they will follow a Banting diet for 6 weeks and weight, body circumference measurements as well as vital signs will be documented on a weekly basis for the duration of the study.
Subjects HBA1C and lipid profile will also be tested and documented before and after the programme.
All subjects will be required to sign an indemnity form prior to participating- it however needs to be mentioned that partaking in this intervention is totally voluntary and completely self driven.

Results will be summarized and information gained will be used as a basis for a larger trial.
